Paper Required
Boston Medical Center's facilities team was drowning in paper. Hundreds of technicians were completing thousands of work orders every day using a process built around printed forms and manual hand-offs—with no mobile access to the underlying facility management system. When critical equipment malfunctioned, there was no reliable way to reroute technicians in real time or initiate service calls on-site. The administrative burden was significant, the process was slow, and hospital staff had no live visibility into work order status across BMC's large campus.
Magic Software built an end-to-end enterprise mobility solution that extended BMC's existing desktop-based facility management system to both iOS and Android devices. The mobile platform gave technicians native barcode scanning to report problems and receive work assignments on-site, photo documentation capabilities to update asset records in the field, and the ability to close out work orders at the point of completion without returning to a desk. Offline mode ensured the app remained fully functional in low-connectivity areas across the campus, with automatic synchronization once connectivity was restored.
